Random Take Cus I'm Bored: Final Thoughts on The Great Gatsby + The World of Shiny Things

Blog #8: Bizarre Take #8: Final Thoughts on The Great Gatsby + The World of Shiny Things So this week we finally conducted our Great Gatsby X Diamond as Big as the Ritz Unit, and honestly it was really fun! Reading the Great GAtsby was pretty boring at times, especially when it was just Gatsby poring over Daisy and buying her lavish and extravagant things, and Myrtle was getting run over and beat up all the time (poor Myrtle) However, the ending was very interesting and definitely caught my eye. Especially the unexpected deaths and the not-so happy ending; that were definitely not the way I expected this book to end, but it does make sense. After all, a happy ending would not have established the main lesson that we learned: You can’t turn back time; no amount of money or wealth can change that. Time is an abstract, not a materialistic idea, something  that Gatsby failed to comprehend from the very beginning. Another main theme that we picked up was that the wealthy seemed to be i...

Extra Credit Blog: Death Through An Unexpected Lens

Bizarre Take #6 - Death Through An Unexpected Lens One foot after the after, I began running as fast as I possibly could. The wind rushed through my hair and ears, and a wave of panic washed over me as I got further and further away from that place. Whatever that was. Hell, you could call it. For years, I felt trapped and lonely, stuck in this endless eternity of poverty. I was trapped in the Valley of Ashes for all of my life; Will I ever be able to get out? That question was one I had kept on asking myself for days, months, even years now. My unfortunate husband had found out about my infidelity, although I myself think I did a good job with hiding it. How did these hard-headed fool not realize where I went every day for like 10 hours? I’d say that was suspicious on my part, but hey, whatever floats the boat. A’las, he found out, and now I'm on the loose. A mix of fear and panic kept hitting me as my mind ran through all the things Wilson would probably do to me. Shoot me? Maybe...

Bizarre Take #6: A Rerun of Romeo + Juliet?! (+ My Crazy Takes!)      The Great Gatsby, a book filled to the brim with 1920s fashion and culture, and rich with consumerism! Here, we analyzed the character dynamic of Great Gatsby, and how he gained such massive success, a mystery that the readers are left to uncover. We also see Gatsby’s and Daisy’s relationship grow throughout the story, and how they slowly reunite through a dark, broken past. The motif of a clock also comes up, showing how time defines human relationships. When Gatsby is trying to win back daisy, he attempts to save the clock, which is described as defunct. As he’s trying to save a broken clock, he’s also trying to desperately save a shattered relationship, with no awareness of the damage already done. However, the clock ends up falling on its own, showing that their fate is inevitable. He’s attempting to control something that’s uncontrollable, which he doesn’t seem to understand.     ...

Bizarre Take #5 - The Hidden Flaws of the Jazzy Era

Bizarre Take #5 - Hidden Flaws of the Jazzy Era  The 1920s! An era filled with Jazz, flappers, raccoon coats, and my personal favorite, hairstyles! People rocked really cute styles in this era, and everything seemed to be very classy and fashionable! The idea of owning cars, television sets, and radios was becoming popularized, and people paid loads of money to get their hands on these.  It was absolute madness, yet it was one of the main things that made this decade so iconic!  In class, we’re deep diving into the 1920s with a famous book title you may know: The Great Gatsby! I’m sure Leonardo Dicaprio is the first thing that comes to your mind : D This book explores the famous Gatsby, and starts off with a narration by one of the supporting characters, Nick Carraway. At first, he seems to be very tolerable and moral, but his hidden motives seem to come out. Nick claims he’s very nonjudgmental and looks after the feelings of others, although that didn’t seem to be the ca...

Bizarre Take #4: The Crazy World of Sensory Transmission

Bizarre Take #4: The Crazy World of Sensory Transmission (strap in for this one : D) So we all know our 5 senses right? Smell, Taste, Touch, Hearing, and Eyesight – the 5 senses that have been drilled into our heads since elementary school. Well, we don't just get this information randomly; there's a certain process called Sensory Transmission! Super formal name, I know! Sensory information travels through what is commonly known to all of us as the nervous system, which contains all of our, well you guessed it, nerves! This is usually done through nerve impulses, or whats known as action potential. Now, action potentials aren't just some cool Transformers thing. It's a series of voltage changes in a membrane that can be generated by neurons. Kinda reminds me of the Flash, not sure why! This can usually happen with sensory receptors, which can travel along an axon. However, there's another type of transmission as well. A sensory receptor without any neutrons cannot t...
