Bizarre Take #13- I Want a Wife Deep Dive 🤿 I want a wife. Not even a question. Just a demand. I want a wife. I want a wife who does this. I want a wife who does that. Nothing else to it other than a plain title. A category. This is the same truth Judy Brady breaks down in her piece “I want a wife”; a satirical analysis on men’s perceptions of women’s roles in society, let alone their own marriage. While reading this, it took me a while to realize this was satire, but through the constant repetition of the phrase “I want a wife”, as well as the use of irony, I was able to discover Brady’s true intentions whilst writing this. . Brady uses this satire to criticize men for their views on their wives and their demeaning demeanor. She invokes sarcasm when she writes, “Who wouldn’t want a wife?”, to show how men are so used to these unrealistic standards forced on their partners. She also uses irony when she says “I want a wife who will not bother me…but will listen to me” to demonstra...

Bizarre Take #12: Kitchen Sets for the Win! Growing up, I never played with many toys, since I usually got bored after a while. Don’t get me wrong, I had millions of barbies, shopkins, and even a personal favorite, My Little Pony, but eventually I lost interest. Most other kids could come up with creative storylines to act out, whereas I didn’t have the ability to create plot lines to follow. One thing, however, that brought me joy and kept me busy throughout the day, was this giant kitchen set my mom had bought me. I was always excited at the thought of it, and although not a traditional childhood toy, it’s always been one of my personal faves. It has remained a significant part of my adolescence, and I found a certain comfort in it that I hadn’t experienced before. These sets were usually structured as a kitchen, having an oven, sink, and various cabinet...

  2. Write a personal narrative in which you describe a role that your family or friends expected of you but that you either refused to play or struggled against. Explain the origin and nature of the expectation, as well as your reasons for not wanting to fulfill it. Include a discussion of the reactions you have gotten as you challenged the role or expectation. One role my family expected of me was to follow in their career path, which was computer science. Both my parents have pursued computer science back in India, and were able to make a living here in the United states. My mom wasn’t able to pursue it as a job, however, due to responsibilities with me and my sister. This expectation came from a family trend of being a par of engineering, and my parents wanted me to have a secure job, something they had been able to do in the US. It came from confidence knowing this job was financially supportive. This pushing onto me was done primarily for “my own good", even if I wasn’t part...
