  Bizarre Take #16: Canceled or Nah? 🍅🍅  “ You’re Canceled!” Cancel Culture has risen as a popular media tactic used against various celebrities and personalities when they commit acts that may come across as socially unacceptable. Figures like James Charles, Kanye, and even Ellen, popular talk show host. These are done with the intent to hold the said person accountable for their deliberate actions and create a sense of publicity through these controversial takes, gaining traction quickly through likes and follows.  Oftentimes though, these issues never get resolved at the end, and are transformed into a publicity stunt just to gain followers and get clicks. Canceling internet celebrities is an act done frequently, and allows for the targeted personality to be held accountable for their actions as well as raise awareness for sensitive or taboo topics that may spark controversy.                                                         This past week, we read two very insightful pieces, one being the ““The F Word”, a story about Dumas’s experiences having an ethnic name, and her difficulty with being accepted into American culture. She encounters many struggles being an Iranian immigrant, and oftentimes, Americans’ perception of her culture is very ignorant. She receives many negative attitudes due to her real name, and whenever she adopts her new one, she is treated much differently. This contrast shows how Americans can be unmindful of these immigrants' names and how they approach different cultures. This piece really resonated with me as I also have immigrant parents, and having an ethnic name, I have experienced similar struggles to Dumas. I am able to empathize with her. This seemingly realistic news outlet portrays current events in a humorous way, looking at them in a critical perspective and oftentimes, exaggerating certain parts of them.
